BearingPoint Predicts Rapid Expansion Of Health Savings Accounts If ...

BearingPoint, Inc. (NYSE:BE), one of the world's largest management and technology consulting firms, eleased projections for the impact of the most widely touted health proposal across the presidential candidates' platforms - universal coverage - on multiple health constituents. Universal coverage as described in the presidential health platforms, is being applied in California and Massachusetts and requires coverage for all (or nearly all) residents through mandates or incentives, for insurance usually supplied through employers of all sizes. In application, this would increase the offering of high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) and their associated financial accounts. According to BearingPoint's forecast, the implementation of universal healthcare in the U.S. could further impact all health constituents, including increasing HSA projections beyond the current 2012 estimates of more than 20 million new accounts with more than $200 billion in assets.

Chambers Of Commerce Endorse New Health Insurance Plan To Help Small ...

VISALIA, Calif. - (Business Wire) California chambers of commerce are increasingly taking a leadership role to help small businesses cope with rising healthcare costs and improve access to quality health insurance for their employees, according to BEN-E-LECT, a leading third party administrator (TPA) and innovator of Employer Driven Health Plans.

"We’ve seen a rise in interest from chamber executives, particularly those who are taking a more active role as advocates for the small business members they represent," says Mark Reynolds, president and CEO of BEN-E-LECT. "Just this month, five new chambers have joined our Chamber Affinity Program and are now introducing their members to our health insurance plan that has proven to be successful and is being used by more than 2,000 businesses throughout California."

Among the chambers that have most recently partnered with BEN-E-LECT are the Stockton, Chino Valley, Santa Barbara, Irvine, and Escondido Chambers of Commerce, representing approximately 6,500 businesses.

Comment: William Kay: Box-ticking will be banks’ safety net under ...

IF Gordon Brown gets his way, banks will soon be placed in a separate legal category from all other UK businesses. That is the main message of the Treasury’s new paper on financial capability and depositor protection, and it has serious implications for bank investors and customers.

The Treasury stresses that it does not intend to stop banks failing, but proposes so many safety nets that only a very serious and sudden collapse could puncture them all.

So, although it is possible to envisage destruction in value on the scale of Northern Rock’s shares – from a peak of more than £12 to today’s £1 or so – it is far less likely under the new regime.

A rerun of the Rock fiasco with the new fire engines in place would have had the Financial Services Authority hauling in that bank’s (now former) chief executive, Adam Applegarth, to explain why he was relying so heavily and riskily on money markets rather than depositors for mortgage finance.

It seems the nearer your destination ...

I seem to have a strange power over Alan Dershowitz. I mean, I presume the guy must be intelligent, what with making all those millions of bucks winning appeals and teaching at Harvard and the like. And yet every time my path crosses his, his actions resemble those of a junior high school student. You may recall that I've noted a few times that Dershowitz has out-and-out lied about me to the press, which is not stupid, but he has done so about an incident in which I was holding a tape recorder in his face, which is. I've speculated on more than one occasion that Dershowitz, whom I've actually found to be charming and engaging in person, simply loses his mind when the topic is either himself or the Jewish people. Well, there he goes again. See below in this exchange in the current issue of The Nation:

My Turn: Why I don't 'shop Taos'

Local newspapers often print letters from merchants in Taos County who encourage residents of the city and county to shop locally. Many local retail establishments are struggling to survive and residents are asked to purchase here to support the local economy. I rarely shop Taos. I wait once a month and shop in Santa Fe, or, when on business out of state, shop and mail my purchases home. I also make frequent purchases over the Internet. Why? Because I have experienced the following: Choice is limited. I don’t find what I need here. It’s just as easy to order over the Internet and receive my goods for the minimal cost of shipping and get exactly what I want when I want it. The purchase usually arrives in a matter of two to three days and is delivered to my door. Cost of shipping usually amounts to the cost of a couple of gallons of gas at most (and if the order is large enough, shipping is free). Many merchants don’t make it easy to purchase what I need. More than one merchant on the plaza refuses to take checks.
