We'll set up a government bureaucracy to monitor and make sure you're cooperating. If they discover you haven't made the purchase, they'll go to your employer and have your wages garnisheed. Let's assume further that total spending for this government-designed and -mandated product accounts for about a fifth of the nation's total economy. The former Soviet Union? Communist China? Permanent makeup lures some to needle
No one said looking good is supposed to be painless. That maxim rang especially true as Julie Wallace leaned over to tattoo the outline of Nancy Wallace's lips with ink the color of Jamaican Rum. It was quiet inside A Perfect Line Academy of Permanent Cosmetics, except for the soft hum of Wallace's permanent makeup pen. Wallace, 29, used one gloved hand to steady the lip, while the other lowered the tool's needle to blend the color in. Then she pulled back. "You've got color!" Wallace said to the patient who happened to be her mother. Cathy Klemz peered in for a closer look. "It doesn't look clowny at all," said Klemz, a permanent makeup technician and trainer. "It looks nice and very natural." The process of getting one's lips outlined typically takes as long as twohours and plenty of topical cream to numb the pain.
Gout surge blamed on sweet drinks
Sugary drinks have been blamed for a surge in cases of the painful joint disease gout. Men who consume two or more sugary soft drinks a day have an 85% higher risk of gout compared with those who drink less than one a month, a study suggests. Cases in the US have doubled in recent decades and it seems fructose, a type of sugar, may be to blame, the British Medical Journal study reports. UK experts said those with gout would be advised to cut out sugary drinks. About 1.5% of the UK population currently suffers from gout and there has been an increase in numbers over the last 30 years - although the condition is more associated with Victorian times. .

Massive fire at Kabul hospital KABUL, Jan 21 (AFP): A massive fire broke out late Sunday at a hospital in Kabul, causing major damage to medicine supplies and x-ray equipment but no injuries, police and doctors said. SERT students complete second session of training
This is the second in a series of articles following some of the Kern Valley High students as they take part in SERT training course. On Friday, Feb. 1, the ECHO (Exploring Careers in Health Occupations) students at Kern Valley High School began their second module of SERT (Student Emergency Response Team) training, which is Fire Suppression and Safety. The curriculum for the SERT course, which takes place in Tom Evans' fourth-period ECHO Health Technology class every Friday, was adapted for Kern Valley High School by Vickie Stacy, ECHO coordinator, and Tom Klein, the Kern River Valley CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) originator who brought CERT to the valley in 2004. KRV CERT is a group of Kern Valley residents who have volunteered their time to train under FEMA guidelines and assist first responders when a disaster strikes.
