Beware of gum disease's full-body potential

Did you know that good dental hygiene keeps more than just your mouth healthy? A growing body of evidence suggests that maintaining healthy teeth and gums is important for the health of your entire body.

Oh, come on How could that be? Well, it turns out that gum disease releases bacteria and their products into the bloodstream. This can trigger a whole host of disease and problems throughout the body.

For the sake of your overall health and well-being, it's essential to properly care for your teeth.

Periodontal disease

It's a common condition that can progressively lead to damage of your gums. It starts with the accumulation of dental plaque -- a sticky, colorless material that accumulates at the gum line of your teeth.

Next, bacteria thriving in the plaque produce toxic substances.

Nurses to take over from GPs on home visits

But Dr Robbie Robertson, secretary of the Scotland Patients Association, said he had serious reservations. He said: "There will be times when nurses have to do things that only a doctor is trained to do in emergencies. I think the nurses would need to be highly experienced, because they are going to be on their own in someone's house and, unless they have had some sort of paramedic training, it could be a very dangerous situation. "There is an element of risk, as there may be times when the problem is complex, such as abdominal pain, when they will really have to know what they are doing. Something like appendicitis can be missed quite easily. I can understand where the nurses are coming from in wanting to do this, but are they experienced enough? That is my concern." Last week's Audit Scotland report warned of a crisis in the out-of-hours healthcare system because of the shortage of GPs working at night and at weekends.

The orphan playwright

Next week, 380 years after he was buried, Thomas Middleton's reputation will be resurrected by a new edition of his collected works. It has taken 75 scholars from a dozen countries 20 years to produce, and the result revolutionises our understanding of the English Renaissance. Middleton is our other Shakespeare: the orphan of London is the only English playwright who can survive the comparison. That's why the new Oxford edition mimics, visually, the Oxford Shakespeare. Hundreds of new discoveries are contained in the edition. Perhaps most strikingly, using massive computer databases, it confirms and expands earlier claims that Middleton collaborated with Shakespeare on Timon of Athens, and that he posthumously adapted both Macbeth and Measure for Measure

He Put In His Thumb And Pulled Out A Blum

Well, anabolic steroids (even before it was against MLB rules to used them, instituted in 2005.) And Growth Hormone, let's not forget that evil drug, which turns Mario Mendozas into Barry Lamar Himself.

Between finally indicting Barry Lamar, the only ballplayer who ever did steroids or HGH (so they say), the epitome of everything that is wrong with baseball (except for Scott Boras, who commits the unspeakable act of trying to fulfill his clients wishes of getting the biggest contract/endorsements they possibly can.) You don't see anyone heaping the kinds of invective and abuse upon roids users who have actually been caught with positive tests such as Ryan Franklin and JC Romero, do you?

Why am I mentioning all this? For the simple reason that the owners have FINALLY figured out how to make the ballplayers look bad to the public so they can get away with paying them less and keeping more of the profit for themselves while continuing to raise ticket prices.

A Different Perspective

Yogi Bear stood at the entrance to Jellystone National Park. He scouted unattended picnic baskets while awaiting Boo Boo Bears arrival home on the school bus. Yogi and Boo Boo were co-owners of a playoff fantasy team. As Yogi considered himself smarter than the average bear, he figured his team had a decided advantage, but he needed Boo Boos help in researching and deciphering the most recent data before submitting teams for the next round of games. So he waited anxiously and kept a look out for Ranger Smith. The school bus screeched to a halt at the entrance and Boo Boo climbed down the steps, dragging his back pack behind him. The bus roared off in a cloud of dust and rubble. Hey, Boo Boo! Were still in first place in our fantasy league. Lets go look at the stats and make our picks. I dont want to play anymore, Yogi.
